For Immediate Release - Contact: Susan McAvoy 202-226-7694 (susan.mcavoy@mail.house.gov)
"We will never be able to forget the events of September 11th, 2001. It is a day that will be forever engraved in our minds. Today, as we commemorate the sixth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, we must remember and honor the 2,997 victims America lost that day. We also must not forget the families and friends who lost loved ones in the attacks.

"We owe a great deal to the courageous firefighters, law enforcement officers, volunteers, and others who bravely went above and beyond the call of duty to prevent the death toll from being even greater on that tragic day. Our nation's law enforcement, firefighters, and military personnel work hard to protect us, and we must thank them for their continued dedication. Our resilience as a nation is evident in our communities as well. While the attacks were isolated, an entire nation reacted. Communities in Iowa and all around the country sent care packages and donations to victims of the attacks.

"As a grateful nation, we will always remember those who have sacrificed so much to preserve our freedom. September 11th was one of the most horrific days in this country's history, but in the time of great loss our nation pulled together. As we remember the victims of 9/11 we must continue to be vigilant in our fight against terrorism. As your Member of Congress, I will continue to work to ensure the safety of all Americans and our great nation. September 11th, 2001 was a horrible day in America's history. As we look forward our nation continues to heal, but we will never forget the victims and heroes of September 11th."
